Hurricane Katrina

So it's taken a natural disaster of epic proportions to get me back to my blog. Since I last wrote, I've been preparing for a return to work--teaching school--and I'm now in the swing of things, three weeks in. Katrina has set my mind to musing again, however--one of her greatest accomplishments, no doubt, considering the millions of people who have been displaced and left with nothing but their own thoughts. I pray they are mulling over the "right" thoughts, setting their mind of spiritual things, the true reality. We are indeed walking shadows, and God's purpose IS in this disaster, no matter its level of tragedy. He WILL wake up the walking dead that he has chosen, and His purpose will be served. I pray that they will receive the needed food and water, but more importantly, that they will find SPIRITUAL food and LIVING water to lead them from the greatest of all natural disasters, the human heart. James 3:13-18 says this:"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."God's word is true all the time, even in the midst of chaos like that in the gulf region right now. God has humbled those people to an almost Job-like state, and He is searching for the one who will not curse His name, one who can still say "Blessed be the name of the Lord." How much more should He look for that one among us to whom He has given every comfort and every blessing possible? We do not possess earthly wisdom but the wisdom from above that the world calls foolishness. May the Christian victims of Katrina be given grace to stand in God's wisdom though their lowest physical needs are yet to be fully met. God is still good all the time, praise Him.
